Sketchbook

Here's a few pages from out of my sketchbooks, provided with a smidgen of commentary. As we progress through the story, I'll be posting more sketches, so check back often!

These sketches are of our heroes in dynamic poses for the cover of a possible comic book. The comic book will tell the story of how Alex and Samantha came to be as they are, so this pretty much their first glimpses of themselves after arriving in otherSpace.

Usually, I just wing the details of a story, but I'm trying to actually plan things out in advance. Here are my conceptual sketches of the brain thing that the neotyrs evolved into and how they were to be placed on Dorim. As you can see, I completely ignored the details of this sketch, making the brain thing a 5-armed starfish and going for the Alien-like facehugger approach for the the attachment.

I think the sketch of Lenny pulling the brain thing off of Dorim is far more dynamic than the final rendering. That's the way it sometimes goes... the pencil sketch has an energy and vitality that just doesn't make over to the inked verison.

Speaking of Dorim, here's my sketches of her after she ditches the uniform that we see her in. A few details, like the bracelet and the ribbon that ties off her topknot were omitted from the final design (pretty much because I forgot them), but she has stayed pretty much close to this design.
